Anxiety, Depression & the Wisdom of Aging
Your body isn’t betraying you. It’s changing the whole conversation.
Hot flashes. Sleep disruption. Brain fog. Emotional swings that feel like they belong to a stranger. If you’re in perimenopause or menopause, you may be managing significant physical upheaval while also confronting deeper questions: Who am I becoming? What do I want now? Does any of this still fit?
Menopause isn’t just a hormonal event – it’s a psychological threshold. And to be honest, our culture handles it terrible: with silence & shame, dismissal, or sham supplements. You deserve better than that.
Therapy for Menopause That Takes You Seriously
I approach menopause as a season of integration – what I call ‘integrated aging.’ Yes, we’ll work through the anxiety, the depression, the grief of a body that feels unfamiliar, and the complicated feelings that come with understanding menopause on your own terms.
But we’ll also explore what this transition is inviting: a reclamation of your own wisdom, desires, and self-trust. It’s a tectonic shift and profound type of homecoming.
Using somatic (body-based) approaches alongside evidence-based tools like CBT and DBT, we work with your nervous system, not against it. If you’re exploring or currently using hormonal replacement therapy (HRT), I’ll support the emotional dimension of that journey, too, because the hormonal and psychological are deeply intertwined.
I’m Shannan Blum, LMFT, licensed in Indiana, California, and Texas, with over 30 years of clinical experience and a deeply personal understanding of this work.
