Somatic Psychotherapy for Women | Body-Mind Connection

Your body has been trying to tell you something. It’s time to actually listen.

Maybe you’ve done years of talk therapy. You’ve processed, reflected, journaled, and understood – and yet something still feels stuck, lodged somewhere below the words. That’s not a failure of insight. That’s your body telling you the conversation isn’t complete yet.

Somatic psychotherapy works with the intelligence of the body, not just the mind. And yes – it absolutely works online.

What Somatic Psychotherapy Actually Is

‘Somatic’ means body-based. Somatic psychotherapy recognizes that the body has her own language around trauma, stress, and emotional wounds. This shows up like muscle tension, breath patterns, nervous system activation, headaches, and chronic gut issues. Rather than only talking about your experience, somatic work invites you to notice what’s happening in your body as you process it. This is the bodymind connection at work.

I draw on somatic principles alongside traditional modalities – CBT, DBT, inner child work, depth psychology – to help you access healing that talk therapy alone doesn’t always reach. Bodymind reconciliation isn’t a destination; it’s an ongoing, living practice of coming home to yourself.

‘But Can Somatic Therapy Really Work Over Video?’

You bet it can – and I hear this question a lot. Virtual somatic psychotherapy is genuinely effective. We work with breath, movement, body awareness, and grounding – all of which translate well to an online setting. Many clients actually find it easier to do this work from the safety of their own space. You don’t have to be in a room with me for your body to be part of the session. Additionally, I offer dozens of workbooks to help you continue the bodymind dialogues in between sessions.

I’m Shannan Blum, LMFT, have over 30 years of clinical experience and am licensed in Indiana, California, and Texas.

This Might Be Right for You If…
  • You’ve done plenty of talking but still feel ‘stuck’ in ways you can’t fully explain, “logically I know that, but it still feels off,”
  • You experience anxiety, trauma responses, or emotional dysregulation that feels physical
  • You’re curious about the bodymind connection and what healing feels like when the body is part of it
  • You want a virtual somatic psychotherapist who won’t just talk at you for 50 minutes
  • You’re ready to work with your nervous system, not just your narrative
